Mac OS X Leopard

Mac OS X Leopard.

A couple days ago I received a spiffy little email from Apple (the computer company, not the fruit) notifying me of the upcoming release their brand spankin’ new version of OS X, named Leopard. Yes, on October 26, Apple will not only be releasing its update to arguably the best OS ever but also be raking in a massive amount of cash.

A few of the new features of Leopard that I’m looking forward to are most in Leopard are: Time Machine, which lets you see how your system files looked in the past and restore files with a just a click; Quick Look, which lets you browse, play, view, and page through your files without ever opening them; Spaces, lets you customize workspaces to stay clutter-free and organized; and Boot Camp, which lets you run Windows on your Mac.

Only a few years ago Apple was disregarded by a lot of people for being only about trendy design and being only worthwhile for designers like myself.  These days Apple is quickly gaining ground on Windows and PC. Not only for designers anymore, now even programmers and other professionals can see the advantage Apple has over its competition.

But the biggest question behind OS X….what will the next incarnation of Mac OS X, after Leopard, be named? Lion? Snow Cat? Kitten? I do like the sound of  Colocolo

I’m actually hoping we’ll see “Mac OS X Maine Coon“. And it will have 600+ new features/improvements. At least.

I’m pretty excited about Time Machine too. I’m a little curious about how it’s going to handle my video files though. I can’t really afford to have Time Machine make multiple copies of all that stuff. There’s well over a terabyte of video-related files spread over a few drives. I’d have to at least double that.

Anyway. Like Meagan said. See you in line?

Afraid I won’t be at Millenia. I use a Mac Pro at work but I still have a Dell at home. Hopefully my boss will spring for a copy.

Maine Coon does have a nice ring to it…
